Calling 911
Last night I had to call 911 for the first time. I was coming home around midnight and as I got out of my car a couple ran up to me and said that a women was being assaulted by a black man across the street and could I call the police. I immediately pulled out my cell and called 911. As the story unfolded, it turned out to be a drunk squabble over a bag of clothing and there was no assault, just name calling and shoving, but good to be safe. What amazed me was how fast the police arrived. It took maybe 45 seconds. Just think about that.. less than a minute to route the necessary information and get a officer on location. Watching it happen gave me respect for the system and made feel more secure. This morning I went to make a phone call and saw that my cell phone was still in "Emergency mode" so I could make additional calls to 911 with one press of a button.
