I woke up this morning to our first real snowstorm of the season. Everything looks clean, fresh, and white. Such a beautiful day. I hope your having a good one too.
(I didn't take this picture, but it reminds me of my hometown, Cooperstown in the winter)
"AOL pretty much owns the mass consumer who doesn't like change, and is too dumb and lazy to change his e-mail address," he said. "But $15 a month is too high and they will ultimately be forced to introduce lower-priced plans."
"[AOL] announced deals to offer subscribers exclusive access to news clips from CNN, entertainment from HBO and articles from People magazine. But in their presentations Tuesday and in interviews yesterday, AOL executives made clear that such professionally created content is actually a small reason consumers choose the AOL service. They are much more interested in what they and their friends have to say than in what is made by producers."
Why do I need a multi-billion dollar entertainment company to 'faciliate' communication between me, my friends, and my familiy? And if you do want to be in the creative self expression buisness then build better tools to connect people (eg. blogs) and get out of my way.

Pitching Universities. Google's got a new page up, pitching a job at Google to university students. As they point out, the goal of the Google lifestyle was to make it like grad school. (Thanks, Henk!)... [Google Weblog]

A postscript to my weblog essay
A postscript to the weblog essay I posted two days ago. After finishing the essay for a job application I thought I would post it on my own weblog.Later that day I noticed that John Patrick, the former head of Internet Technologies at IBM was talking about Blogging along with Web Services and Grid Computing as “The Next Big Thing” on his weblog.[i]I emailed him a pointer to my essay which he read and mentioned on his site[ii]. This led to further cross posts throughout the weblog community as measured at Technorati.com[iii].Independently Doc Searls has since written an essay[iv] on weblogs that take some of the ideas I discuss even further. The weblog community is alive, self aware, and full of active discussion, conversation, and discourse.
